 The inlingua group was established  in Bern, Switzerland, in 1968.


Today, with 350 schools in 40 countries and with over 40 years’ experience, inlingua is a multinational world-leader in the field of language training, with both company and private clients, bringing together the advantages of a large, widespread organisation and a wealth of experience. Our didactic headquarters are in Bern where the first International inlingua Sprachschule  opened in 1968.

Active in 43 countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia, inlingua has earned the trust of millions of private students, companies (large and small), institutions and government bodies thanks to the fundamental principals of the inlingua method.

  • The mother-tongue teacher conducts lessons exclusively in the target language. We learn languages through speaking, so speaking only the target language is fundamental to our success.
  • The teacher gives the student the opportunity to speak as much as possible during the lesson, right from the very start. It is important for the student to start thinking in the target language as translation only causes confusion and wastes time.
  • The teacher avoids theoretical explanations as much as possible, leaving room for examples and practical use of the language. Priority is given to teaching structures rather than single words with no context.
  • The teacher follows the principles of applied psychology which make learning the language as effective and pleasant as possible.                           
  • The learning path to be followed during the course is determined according to the needs of the student. Language skills, motivation and cultural factors are taken into consideration. 
  • The teacher controls the lesson so that most of the language produced by the students is correct.
  • The teacher encourages the student to have an creative role in the learning process. In order to use the target language constructively, the learner needs to experiment and imagine realistic situations.
